Life Lessons from Courtney Love

Curiosity kept me up last night watching Courtney Love’s return from a 6yr hiatus to the Davis Letterman Show. I don’t know, watching her has always been akin to watching a car wreck – a disaster in progress that you just can’t turn away from. But last night was different. She spoke openly and honestly about her addiction and how it was “self-medicating” and her words hit home for me.

As some of you may know, I’m an emotional eater and last night was wrestling with the almost overwhelming desire to hit the kitchen for my drug of choice – peanut butter.

So imagine my suprise when, as I was trying to distract myself by watching what I was thought might be another fiasco, I came face-to-face with truth from such an unlikely source. Stopped me in my tracks and made me consider what was really important to me.

I was also pleasantly suprised to hear her mention her Life Coach in the core group of people who help her keep focused on what’s important to her.

Thank you Courtney Love for mirroring life advice to this recovering PB junkie.

Happy Earth Day

A few easy tips to be a bit more mindful today and throughout the year:
~ Plant a garden – it doesn’t have to be a huge and time-consuming undertaking, even a window box of lettuce can be easy, healthy and fun.
~ Choose products that have not been tested on animals – there are so many great products out there that this is a no-brainer. After all, can you really justify some poor creature being tortured just so your hair is shiny and your shirts smell nice?
~ Look for biodegradable options – they don’t gunk up landfills and again there are a lot of great products nowdays.
~ Ask your hairstylist about eco-friendly products – the more demand there is the more available they will become, and the less costly they will be.
~ Eat sustainable foods from trusted sources – wild-caught salmon is healthier for you and the oceans.
Remember – love your mother. Earth.
